Vintage Chainsaws and Antique Chainsaws

Although a person hardly goes out looking for vintage chain saws, they do exist. A vintage chainsaw, is the name implies is a logging power tool unique to a specific era. Although looking at a power tool as an investment option is an odd thing to do, there are people out there who will do it. Most people who look for a chainsaw are concerned about whether or not it will work. Typically, a person looking for a used saw of any type wants to know if it will work. He does not worry about its resale value down the road.

An antique chainsaw might fetch something if it is taken to an auction, but it is difficult to determine what makes any type of power tool an antique. Certainly age is a factor in describing any equipment as vintage, but even a cordless drill gets thrown out long before it gets stored. Few power tools remain in mint condition after the owner begins to use them.

While a person should not buy a saw from someone describing it as vintage, he may be able to hold on to it or fix it up. A chainsaw in good repair can still cut down lumber even if it is old. If the seller knows something about the equipment, he may also be able to turn a profit on it. The two-stroke motors also work well for other projects the new vintage chainsaw owner might conceive. A buyer does need to remember that manufacturers do not make the parts forever, however.
